Info

rv deep cycle battery are familiar to anyone with a recreational vehicle or powerboat. Such batteries are often used in golf carts and large solar systems (the sun produces energy during the day, so they store some of it for use at night).

Car batteries and deep cycle batteries are both lead-acid batteries, and they undergo exactly the same chemical reactions when operating. The difference between the two batteries is the way they optimize their designs:

The purpose of the car battery is to provide a large amount of current in a relatively short time. This impulse current is needed to start the engine when the car starts. After the engine starts, the alternator provides all the power the car needs, so the lifetime capacity of the car battery should not exceed 20% of its total capacity. In this form, car batteries can last for many years. To get a lot of current, car batteries use thin plates to widen the surface area.

The purpose of the Rv deep cycle battery is to provide a relatively stable current for a relatively long period of time. Deep-cycle batteries can also provide impulse current if needed, but they are not as powerful as car batteries. Deep-cycle batteries also require repeated deep discharges, which in the case of car batteries can quickly lead to their demise. Therefore, deep cycle battery to use relatively thick plate.

Car batteries generally have two ratings:

CCA(Cold Start amperage) : The number of amperage produced by a battery in 30 seconds at zero degrees Celsius

RC(Standby capacity) : the number of minutes it takes a battery to output 25 amps at a voltage higher than 10.5 volts

Typically, Rv deep-cycle batteries have double or triple the spare capacity of car batteries, but can supply only half or three-quarters of the cold-starting amps. In addition, deep cycle batteries can withstand hundreds of full discharge/recharge cycles, whereas car batteries cannot be fully discharged.
